Ourkidfirst is a business designed to give affordable information and assistance to those who find the whole system bewildering and confusing. Ashley, has a wealth of experience as both a paralegal, mediator and Secondary school deputy headteacher and safeguarding officer.

It is important for you to know what a McKenzie Friend can and cant do, and bear in mind we can only support you within the guidelines of the court rules. We cannot guarantee we can talk for you in court, but we can be there for you all the way and in the room.

McKenzie Friends

A McKenzie friend may provide moral support for litigants; take notes and help with case papers alongside quietly give advice on any aspect of the conduct of the case.

A McKenzie friend cannot act as the litigants’ agent in relation to the proceedings; manage litigants’ cases outside court, for example by signing court documents; or address the court, make oral submissions or examine witnesses.

If an individual judge wishes they may grant rights of audience to a McKenzie friend to allow them to address the judge in court.
